Roger L. DurantZANESVILLE: Roger L. Durant, 73, of Zanesville, died at 6:39 p.m. Friday September 19, 2014 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House surrounded by his family. He was born on July 30, 1941 in Zanesville a son of the late William R. Durant and Viola Durant Lighthizer. He was a lifelong youth sports coach, starting in 1973. In 1977 he started a girls program with Kelsey Krigbaum. Roger coached boys baseball and football, girls softball and basketball. He was part of a group of voluteers who established South Zanesville Village Park. He was a United States
Army veteran serving from 1958-1961. He was a member of the Zanesville
VFW Post #1058 where he proudly served on the firing squad for 14 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Saint Nicholas Catholic Church and was a lifelong brickmason. He is survived by his wife Jayne Durant; one son, Mike (Melissa) Durant; two daughters, Michelle (Russell) Taylor and Melissa Durant; grandchildren, Megan, Hayley, Devin, Ashlyn, Tyler, Rachel, and Emily; one great-grandchild, Hayden; one brother, Jim (Carol) Durant; one sister, Pam Vandenbark; nephews Jimbo, Shane, and Chad; niece, Tonya and numerous other nieces and nephews in Ohio, North Carolina, and California; one step-sister, Vickie (Randy) Kaid. He was preceded in death by two daughters Belinda and Melinda. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday September 22, 2014 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 23, 2014. Father Martin J. Ralko officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.
