Roderick Valiquette Fagan died peacefully at age 93 in Chico, California at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jeff Sloan.
Roderick grew up in Rutland, Vermont. After graduating from Holy Cross University, he was in WWll as an Ensign in the Navy. Following his time in the war, he was hospitalized for two years. It was during that time that he met and married his nurse, Betty Jean Cook. They had four children together, Sharon Sloan, Barbara Black, Mary Peterson, and Roderick Fagan Jr.
Roderick was a corporate attorney in San Jose and lived in Saratoga for 25 years before retiring to both Oakmont and Varenna in Santa Rosa with his beloved wife, Betty, who pre-deceased him in 2009. He was an avid golfer until age 84. This was balanced by his strong relationship to his immediate family for 93 years and to his sister Moira Flanigan in Rutland Vermont.
In addition to his four children, Roderick is survived by his grandchildren, Richard Sloan, Logan and Blake Meline, Courtney Black, Chanhom Barnett, Madeline and Kevin Fagan, and grand-baby, Lula Meline.
Roderick was a man who believed deeply in philanthropy. He hoped that his legacy would be, “People who have been blessed with more would share with those who have less.” He genuinely felt if this spirit were embraced, the world would be a better place.
His entire family came from across the country for his Memorial. It was an intimate gathering of immediate family at his beloved Lake Tahoe where most family vacations were spent. Tears of joy and sorrow were shared for our forever loved father and Papa.
You can to the family or in memory of Roderick Fagan.
