ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Robert Dell McCaskill, 82, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 14, 2016. "Bob" was born on Oct. 16, 1933 in Montgomery County to David and Gertrude McCaskill.
Bob married Daisy (Simmons) McCaskill in 1954 in Bennettsville, South Carolina, and they remained together for 61 years.
Bob had a variety of jobs before investing in real estate and his own establishments. He was the founder and owner of Soul Brothers Barber Shop and Hair Salon in Queens, New York. He retired from Union Local 810 as a truck driver in 2001 and returned to North Carolina in 1994.
Bob was a husband, father and friend to many. His smile, laugh and love for people were infectious. With Daisy, they welcomed and raised more than 20 children and foster children during their life together.
Bob is survived by his wife, Daisy Jane McCaskill; sons, Robert Jr. (Vanessa) of Rockingham, Lee (Cathy) of New Jersey, Ronald (Jacqueline) of Raleigh and Larry of Raleigh; and daughters, Wilina Ellerbe (Rick) of Rockingham, Jessica Shaw (Ernie) of Raleigh, Stephanie McCaskill of Raleigh and Serita Timmons of Asheboro.
Bob is also survived by his brothers, Rogers McCaskill of Baltimore, Maryland, and Lewis David McCaskill of Fayetteville; one sister, Junna McNair of Capitol Heights, Maryland; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
There will be a public viewing held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at McNeill Funerals Inc.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Greater Walls Chapel AME Zion Church.
