Robert GoettlMANSFIELD: Robert Goettl, 91, of Mansfield passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at his home. He was born on June 27, 1926 in Mansfield, OH. Robert was the son of Karl and Ida Goettl.After serving in the U.S. Army during
World War II, Robert married Ruth Aldine Trainer of Fredericktown, Ohio on June 20, 1948. They both met at the Mansfield halloween parade 70 years ago on a blind date set up Neil and Jerry Butler that worked with them at Westinghouse factory. Robert owned Robert Goettl Roofing and Spouting and had previously worked for his father all the while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ as he worked. He was sincere and affectionate in everything he did. Robert knew no stranger. He served as an usher at the Mansfield Apostolic Church on Middle Bellville Road and greeted those attending service at the front door with a warm smile and hand shake. Robert was a dedicated and loving grandfather and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, and really enjoyed visiting with his family. He was a caring man who was always willing and ready to help others. He is also known throughout the years to have donated to the Friendly House, Raintree and to the Mansfield Apostolic Retirement Community on Logan Road.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Aldine Goettl; his daughter, Susan (John) Olar of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Christina Whitlatch, John (Shirley) Olar Jr., Amy (Joe) Walters, George (Stefanie) Olar, and William (Marina) Olar; eleven great-grandchildren, Davia Whitlatch, Jasper Whitlatch, Reville Snyder, Calio Snyder, Hazelene Snyder, Natalie Walters, Nathaniel Walters, Noah Olar, Jacob Olar, Lidica Olar, and William Olar; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Herman Goettl; sister, Evelyn Goettl; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lynn Goettl; three brothers; and four sisters.The Goettl family will receive friends from 10-11am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home conducted by the Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will be at Bryn Zion Cemetery.
