Robert "Bob" E. PurdyJuly 22, 1929 - July 16, 2017Salem - Bob Purdy passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 16, 2017 surrounded by his wife, children and family. He was born on July 22, 1929 in Tacoma, WA and has called Salem home since 1939. Bob graduated from Salem High School before serving in the
Korean war (U.S. Army). He owned & operated two Chevron Service Stations in Salem, before eventually working as a financial planner until retirement. Bob was a loving husband, father, 'papa', and friend, who rarely met a stranger. He could oftentimes be found watching and volunteering at local high school games. Bob loved an adventure, characterized by yearly RV excursions to Southern California, boating expeditions and international travel that provided the opportunity to savor the natural beauty of God's Creation. He also enjoyed salmon fishing in the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest, grocery shopping and drinking milkshakes that were 'light on the chocolate'.Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lavurne Purdy, daughters Laurie Brand (Ross), Josie Rodriguez-Brooks (Cliff), Bobbi Graff (Michael), son Roger Purdy (Pam), as well as fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22 at 2:00 PM at Jefferson Baptist Church, in Jefferson, Oregon. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 21 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Restlawn Funeral Home. He will be buried at Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, KY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be given to Jefferson Baptist Church with "Jennie's School" in the memo line (PO Box 240, Jefferson, OR 97352) or to the Union Gospel Mission (PO Box 431, Salem, OR 97308).Services under the direction of Restlawn Funeral Home.
