Robert Dean Gustin, of Tawas City, formerly of Saginaw, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at the Saginaw St. Mary's Hospital, age 79 years. Robert was born on March 24, 1932 in Saginaw to Dewey and Myrtle (nee Brock) Gustin. He graduated from Saginaw High School in the Class of 1950 and then in 1952 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served our country until he was honorably discharged in 1956, stationed at Camp David. Robert was employed through the General Motors Corporation in Saginaw within the Plant Security division, and he retired in 1989. He will be always remembered as being an avid woodcarver for 15 years, where he made a wide variety of carvings including beautiful canes and walking sticks. He belonged to the Hale Happy Chippers club, and he truly loved fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. Robert also was a big fan of NASCAR racing and joining with his special friends at the restaurant for coffee in the mornings. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mary, whom he married on Jan. 30, 1954 in Saginaw. Together, they celebrated 57 years of marriage! He is also survived by his children, Suzanne (Gary) Geer of Tawas City, Steven (Kelli) Gustin in Saginaw, Amy (Matt) Siler of Merrill and Elizabeth (Roger) Moulton of Merrill; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie Anschuetz, Bradley (Tonya) Geer, Matthew (Lindsey) Geer, Jeremy (Courtney), Scott (Karen), and Lori Gustin, Raymond Seeley, Corey, Zachary, and Danielle Siler, Brock, Derek and Shane Moulton; two great grandchildren, Preston and Madelyn; one brother, John "Jack" Gustin of Saginaw; one brother-in-law, Robert (Anne) Schnetzler of Saginaw; one sister-in-law, Jeri Gustin in Saginaw; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends. Robert was preceded in death by a son, Brian Gustin; and a couple brothers and a sister. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service and military honors will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City with Pastor Mary Gibson officiating.
