Robert and Georgia PorterNEWARK: Funeral services for Robert "Bob" and Georgia Porter will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 65 North Third Street in Newark, on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00AM. An Honor Guard Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.Calling Hours will be held at Brucker - Kishler Funeral Home on Friday, April 21 from 2-4 and 6-8PM.Mr. Porter, age 82, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born December 30, 1934 in Denver, Colorado, to Howard and Marion Porter. He is survived by one brother, Raymond Dunn (Zulena), of Pasadena, California and one sister, Cathryn Foster, who lives in Idaho. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty LaCasse. He also has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Colorado and California. Mr. Porter served in the United States Army, United States Navy, The National Guard and the United States Air Force. He graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle, Washington and earned his degree from COTC-OSU Newark. He was an Electronics Technician, retired from the Newark Air Force Base. He taught Adult Education at Licking County Joint Vocational School following his retirement. He enjoyed travelling, woodworking, and playing cards. He was also an avid roller skater, and belonged to several skating clubs. Mrs. Porter, age 77, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. She was born on January 26, 1940 to Anthony and Mary (Diblasio) Zaras. She has one surviving brother, Nicholas Zaras, of Newark. Mrs. Porter earned her certification from The Ohio State University and was a retired Dental Hygienist. She enjoyed travelling, quilting, and sewing. She was a member of Weathervane Playhouse, 2oth Century Flyers, and Licking County Players. She sang in the choir at First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Porter is survived by his three daughters, Karen Kitchen, Sue (Martin) Pettigrew, and Margy Porter-Hansen. Mrs. Porter is survived by her daughter, Barcy Curtis. They had eight grandchildren, Claire, John, and Hale Hansen; Chase, Alex, and Keegan Curtis, 2nd Lt. Zachary (Chiara) Rutledge, and Zoie Kitchen. They also had two wonderful great-grandchildren, Lucas and Isabella Rutledge. They also leave behind many wonderful friends, including the people at First Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colorado, and at The Works and The Midland Theatre in Newark. The family would like to thank the Reverend Steven Brand of First Presbyterian Church, City of Newark EMS, Dr. Jason Winterhalter and his staff, the staff of Rhodes and Doan Hall at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and Hospice of Central Ohio for their loving and compassionate care for Bob and Georgia, and the family.
