Richard W. Halladay of Bloomfield Hills died peacefully at home on December 16, 2019, following a long illness. He was 82 years old. Richard was born at the University of Michigan Hospital on February 22, 1937, and was the first child of Eric and Catherine (Walker) Halladay. He was a proud Eagle Scout and a graduate of Cooley High School and the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and the Men's Glee Club.
He was a longtime advertising industry professional who worked for J. Walter Thompson, W.B. Doner, and DMB&B, where he retired as Vice President of Worldwide Accounts. In retirement, he fulfilled a lifelong ambition of becoming both a published author and contemporary artist. He was the consummate host, an avid storyteller, and art aficionado, and was considered an honorary Swede by family and friends alike.
Richard was a loving husband to Karin ("Marie-Ann") (Eklund) for 51 years and was a kind and caring father to Malin (Moulay Hassan) Aladlouni, Sara (Matt) Klakulak and Anika (Kyle) Smith. He was a proud grandfather of Moulay Ahmed, Safia and Maria Aladlouni; Joergen and Emile Klakulak; and Katherine Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Jean Kolb of Boise, Idaho, and was loved by several nieces, nephews and in-laws in the U.S. and abroad. He was also Lukas' favorite walking companion and snack giver.
His life will be celebrated with family and friends this summer on the grounds of Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills.
