Richard Waingold, O.D. (1948-2025)

Richard Waingold, O.D., 76, passed away at home in Pebble Beach, CA on January 30, 2025.

Richard was born on October 3, 1948 in Cumberland, MD to Harold and Rita Waingold.  He earned a bachelor of science in vision science and doctor of optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in 1973 and went on to practice optometry for nearly 40 years.

Richard married Linda (Ragland) Waingold on September 20, 1969 and were wed for over 55 years.  He enjoyed a multitude of hobbies throughout his life, including magic, jewelry making, pizza making, glassblowing, 3D printing, metal etching, and currency and options trading.  He was a lifetime learner and loved conversation.

He was also an animal lover, having owned several wire haired fox terriers as well as other dogs throughout his lifetime, including Diopter, Alex, Hooper, Abby and Cindy Lou.

He is survived by Linda, his wife of 55 years; four children: Andrea of Monterey, CA, Elliot (Vaishali) of Mercer Island, WA, Adrienne (Andrew) of San Gabriel, CA and Allison (Robert) of Pebble Beach, CA; six grandchildren Ari, Mira, Lucy, Zach, Emme and Nate; his mother, Rita; his brother, Michael; and his nephew, Johnny.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Harold, and brother, Mel.
