FREMONT — Richard Morley "Dan" Jennings III, 84, of Snow Lake, Fremont, Indiana, departed this life on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at his home. He was born on March 7, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Richard M. Jennings Jr. and Virginia G. Jennings. He graduated from Edgewood High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the University of Kentucky, in general business, Alpha Tau Omega; Delta Sigma Pi. During his years at UK he enlisted in the U.S.
Army during the Korean War; he served from 1953-1956, stationed out of Fort Lee, Virginia, receiving an honorable discharge, and returning to finish his college degree. He located to Fort Wayne ending his career with U.S. Steel when he purchased McCoy Bolt Works in 1967, until retiring to Tequesta, Florida, and Snow Lake. During his years in Fort Wayne he served as president of the Northwest Allen County Schools in 1975-76, and also served as secretary, vice president and president of the Business Forum among his many civic contributions, as well as being instrumental in the start-up of the Make*A*Wish of Allen County. Big Brothers/Big Sisters was also dear to his heart. His love of family and community was part of what made him a most admirable man. An avid fan of his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and Kentucky Wildcats, our family all had great times with him; wonderful memories forever. Always in our hearts he leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Karen; six children, Richard M. "Dick" Jennings (Julie) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Robert "Bob" Jennings of Phoenix, Arizona, Jenifer Jennings Warner (Jeff) of Huntertown, Indiana, Sarah "Salli" Swift (Terry) of Vaschon, Washington, Christopher "Chris" Jennings (Isabella) of Jupiter, Florida, and Della Jennings of Fremont, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jenifer Hagy (Ted) of Rehoboth Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sarah Thomas. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Beams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Berkesch officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post 257. Burial will be held at a later time at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
