ALBION — Richard "Dick" Dewey Baker, age 75, of Albion, Ind., passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 6, 1938, to Dewey and Helen (Fisher) Baker. On August 22, 1957, he married Rosalie Price at Wawaka Brethren Church. They were married 56 years and over the course of their marriage together they lived in Cromwell, Ind.; Antwerp, Ohio; South Milford, Ind.; Marietta, Ga.; Angola, Ind.; Vinita, Okla.; and retired to Manatee Springs, Fla., before moving back to Albion, Ind., to be by their family. Dick worked at Weatherhead (Dana) as an engineer which he retired from in Vinita, Okla., after 40 years. He was a Cromwell volunteer
fireman and one of their first EMTs, and served as a member of their town board for a number of years. Mr. Baker was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He served honorably in the
Korean War. Mr. Baker enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and was a very good all-around fix it man. Dick is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his daughter, Tammy (Jim) Hochstetler, and his sons, Richard (Wendy) of Bay City Mich., and William (Nida) of Ligonier, Ind. He has seven grandchildren, JD (Sherry) Hochstetler, Jennifer (Michael) Frey, Tina Annett, Adam Baker, Angela (KP) Prany, Jill Baker, and Brandon Grayson. Mr. Baker is also survived by a stepgrandson, Brian Dinsmore; a number of great grandchildren; and three siblings Nancy Dobbins of Goshen, Dean (Sally) Baker of Milford, and Becky (Douglas) Koher of Warsaw. Dick is preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen and Dewey Baker; a brother, Jack; a sister, Pat; and a son, Thomas. A memorial service will be held in Mr. Baker's honor on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Yeager Funeral Home with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, Ind. There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
