  • A life well lived

Renee C. Johnson was called home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center in Lanham, Maryland.

Born on December 21, 1956, to the late Claudette and Curtis Johnson, Renee grew up in Washington, D.C., where she received her education through the DC Public School System. A proud graduate of Joel Elias Spingarn High School in 1974, Renee was celebrated for her impeccable style and earned the superlative "Best Dressed" among her peers. She later pursued higher education at the University of the District of Columbia, earning a degree in Business Administration—a testament to her determination and drive.

Renee's vibrant personality and unique sense of style left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Petite yet commanding attention with her fashionable flair, she had a way of lighting up any room she entered. Her love for life was matched only by her deep devotion to family. Renee cherished her daughter Avasha and grandsons Tyree and Jadyn above all else. She also held close memories of her beloved mother Claudette; grandmother Elsie ("Mama"); aunt Betty ("Auntie Betty"); and Godfather James Smallwood.

An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Renee never missed an opportunity to playfully tease her Washington Commanders friends about their team loyalties. Her love for music was equally passionate—she adored Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z—and she brought energy and joy wherever she went as the life of every party. True to herself in every way, Renee lived boldly and unapologetically "Renee's way."

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever be treasured by those who knew her best. Renee is survived by her devoted daughter Avasha; grandsons Tyree and Jadyn; longtime friend Kevin Peebles; and a host of other family members and friends who will carry forward her memory.

Forever remembered as "Fly Renee," may her spirit continue to inspire joy and celebration in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
