GreenMarch 5, 1923 - October 28, 2013Rebecca Jorgensen Green, longtime Marsh Valley resident, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, ID, following a short illness. Rebecca was born on March 5, 1923, in Logan, UT, to Leeman Artgar and Mary Simpson Jorgensen and spent her youth in Moreland, ID, where her parents moved and bought a farm. She was active in Glee Club as a youth and played the cello in the orchestra in high school as they needed a cello player. Playing the cello become an enduring activity for her, which she pursued until the last week of her life, taking her final cello lesson with her teacher in Malad the week prior to her death. Rebecca attended the University of Idaho-Southern Branch in Pocatello, ID, during the war and graduated with a teaching certificate in June 1943. She taught school in Rockford, ID, for one year andin the fall of 1944, got a job teaching elementary school in McCammon, ID, where she met her future husband. Shemarried Lyndon Green in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1945. They made their home in McCammon where Lyndon farmed and had a dairy. Rebecca was persuaded to return to teaching after 16 years ofmarriage as there was a teacher shortage at the time. She completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree and graduated from ISU in 1969. She taught school in McCammon for 28 years one year before her marriage and 27 years after. Rebecca was active in the LDS church and held many responsible positions. She was the Stake Young Women'sMutual Improvement Association President for 10 years and served over 19 years altogether on the board of that organization. She worked with five different Young Men's Presidents during her tenure as president and oversaw theintroduction of the Campcrafter program in her stake spending countless hours planning camps and helping young womendevelop outdoor skills and testimonies of the gospel. She wasespecially active in promoting drama events and loved the roadshow presentations. She was always campaigning for better facilities for drama and was thrilled when the Marsh Valley Performing Arts Center was built at the high school as thendrama and theatre productions could be performed there for the community. In recent years, Rebecca performed as a cello player in the orchestra for the community productions of The Forgotten Carols and many years before that for the annual presentationsof the Messiah. Rebecca's love for the arts, her testimony of the gospel, her love for her family, and for others in her beloved McCammon will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her five children: David (Tamara) Green of Boise, ID; Becky (Donald) Coats of Sandy, UT; Erban (Carol) Green of Atascadero, CA; James (Kim) Green of Jerome, ID; and Annette (Cory) Allsop of Providence, UT; 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; one brother, Dee (LaRee) Jorgensen,of Rose, ID; one sister, Donna (Bill) Nelson, of Sandy, UT; asister-in-law, Rozilla Jorgensen, of Pleasant Grove, UT; twobrother-in-laws, Farrell Green of Pocatello, ID and Maurice(Bernice) Green, of Tulare, CA; and another sister-in-law, Zina Jane Goodwin, of South Jordan, UT . She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyndon; five sisters; and twobrothers.The family expresses appreciation to the staff of the ER and the Critical Care Unit at Portneuf Medical Center for the kind and tender care of their mother during the short time she was there.Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the McCammon LDS Stake Center. Friends may visit with the family this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo and again on Monday from 11:30-12:45 p.m. in the Church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery.
