Campbell, Raymond Lowell, Jr. was born on January 13, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina. He grew up in Augusta, Georgia where he lived in the Richmond Hotel with his mother Martha and two sisters, Nancy and Kay where their father was the hotel manager. Ray passed away in Southport, North Carolina on April 25, 2016. He attended Cornell University where earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and there he met his wife Peggy of 53 years. They have twin sons, Mark and Scott; five grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Andrew, Jennifer and Katelyn; and one great grandchild, Emma Lynn. Ray and Peggy spent the first part of their lives together in Dearborn, Michigan where Ray was a manufactures representative for the automobile industry and then owned and operated the Green Onion Restaurant, a local family restaurant, in Dearborn, Michigan for many years. He was a member of several barbershop choruses and was a past president and a member of the Dearborn Kiwanis Club for 40 years. After retirement they were summer residents of Indian River, Michigan and winter residents of Southport, North Carolina. In Indian River he was a member of the Columbus Beach Club and the Indian River Golf Club. In Southport he was a member United States Power Squadron and a member of the Southport Historical Society. Ray and Peggy enjoyed traveling where they vacationed in Akumal, Mexico and Roatan, Honduras for the last 40 years. He enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid fisherman and loved living by the water. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Michigan.
