RAYMOND J. BREED, 78 FREEPORT - Raymond J. Breed, 78, of Freeport, died Friday July 17, 2015 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Raymond was born on May 6, 1937 in Jo Daviess County, the son of Lyle and Lucille (Scherr) Breed. Raymond was a 1955 graduate of Pearl City High School. He served in for the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959 where he was aboard the USS Shangri-La. Raymond married Linda Ewalt on December 21, 1957 in San Diego, California. He worked at Micro-Switch for 36 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Freeport Eagles Club for 55 years. Raymond enjoyed playing euchre at the river with friends, shuffle board, cooking, hunting, fishing, he was an avid bowler, liked working on cars with his cousin, Gordy Breed, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Linda Breed of Freeport; daughter, Deana (Mark) Steele of Freeport; four grandchildren, Candace (Matt) Simpson of California, Cory, Samantha, and Tawny all of Freeport; two great-grandchildren, Maximus and Grayson; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. Also surviving is his loyal companion and dog, Lady. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeffrey; and brother, Donald. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday July 23, 2015 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Diane Jochum will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burke Tubbs with an Eagle service beginning at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
