PHYLLIS VIVIAN SCHLESIGER Phyllis Vivian Schlesiger, age 89, died peacefully on November 26, 2016 after a struggle with COPD. Phyllis was born on March 31, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Alvin John "Beans" Peters and Mildred (Peters) Barrington. Phyllis attended Omaha Tech High School where she graduated with honors. On December 15, 1946 she married the love of her life, John J. Schlesiger, Sr. They lived in Nebraska until 1957 when they moved to Eureka, California where they remained and raised their family. John and Phyllis were married for 52 years. In addition to raising their four children, over the years Phyllis worked as an Avon Representative, a medical assistant and in retail. In her childhood years, she enjoyed ice-skating and was proud of her graceful spins and ice-skating abilities. Later in life Phyllis enjoyed antiquing, boating, camping, crocheting, gardening and spending time at their cabin in Willow Creek. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church for almost 60 years. Phyllis was also an avid San Francisco Giants fan and dog-lover. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband John J. Schlesiger, Sr., father Alvin John "Beans" Peters, mother Mildred Barrington, step-father Earl Barrington, son Richard D. Schlesiger, son-in-law Jim Livingston, grandson Rich Schlesiger, brother Milton "Bub" Gary Peters and half-sister Carmy Anthony. Phyllis is survived by her children John J. Schlesiger, Jr. of Santa Rosa, Peggy (Bill) Jackson of Yakima, Washington, and Jody Livingston of Redding, daughter-in-law Pamela Schlesiger of Fortuna, and half-sister Clarella Kinard of Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan (Heidi) Schlesiger, Morgan Schlesiger, Cole (Jen) Schlesiger, Nyle Schlesiger, Taury Cook, Stacy (Kevin) Carlascio, Steven (Erika) Jackson, and Tanya (Bennie) Tate, and 18 great-grandchildren. Phyllis also leaves behind numerous loving friends and family. The family wishes to thank Frye's Care Home and Hospice of Humboldt for their excellent care and compassion. Services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 716 South Avenue, Eureka.
