Phyllis Bryant, 66, of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully into God's heavenly arms on September 11, 2023, after courageously fighting a 13-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Phyllis was born on June 21,1957 to Dr. and Mrs. Jack T. Coleman [Florence] in Mobile, Alabama. After graduating from Davidson High School in 1975, she received her BSN in Nursing from the University of Alabama [Class of 1979]. She is survived by her beloved, devout high school and college sweetheart of nearly 52 years, Jerre Dungan Bryant, daughter Julie Carol Bryant and two precious grandsons, Weston Rushing Payne and Paxton Downing Payne. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, nurse and high school educator at Mobile Christian School, Phyllis also loved kayaking on Fowl River, serving at Church of the Highlands and traveling with loved ones. Her favorite title was "Gramma" and she enjoyed watching her grandsons grow their love of fishing and being on the water. Her appreciation of marine life and biological sciences influenced all she taught. She loved sacrificially always. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her and most certainly heard those precious words from Abba Father, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Phyllis joins her brother, James Thomas Coleman; father Dr. Jack Turner Coleman; mother Florence Uzee Coleman; mother-in -law, Clodie Dungan Bryant and father-in-law, James Comer Bryant in Heaven. She is also survived by her sisters Valerie Coleman Williams [Lionel, Carl, Eric, Neil] and Sharon Coleman Williamson [Harold, Blake]; as well as her sister-in-law, Peggy J. Coleman [Joe, Jack].
Phyllis always actively believed Philippians 1:21 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” The Celebration of Life in honor of Phyllis Coleman Bryant will be held at 1:30pm on September 17, 2023, at Church of the Highlands [Daphne Civic Center].
