Phillip Lee Matthews, 63, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Summerfield, Florida. Born on March 16, 1963, in Richmond, Virginia, Phillip lived a life marked by creativity, passion, and deep devotion to his family.
A dedicated NASCAR enthusiast, Phillip found immense joy in the thrill of the race and the roar of engines. His love for the sport brought him countless hours of excitement and was a defining part of who he was. Beyond racing, Phillip was an artist at heart. Through his painting, he helped others create their dream homes, leaving behind work that reflected both his skill and unique perspective.
Phillip cherished every moment spent with his son, a relationship that brought him profound happiness and created lasting memories that will be treasured always.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Matthews; his mother, Patricia Ann Matthews; his twin brother, William “Larry” Matthews; and his brother-in-law, G.W. McAlpin.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Shepherd; his sons, Robert Matthews and James, and his step son Kody Shepherd; his siblings, Sheryl McAlpin, Wanda Tysinger (Marshall), Michael “Mike” Matthews (Elizabeth), Richard “Ricky” Matthews (Christy), Thomas “Dale” Matthews (Tammie), and Melissa Matthews; along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Though his passing leaves a profound sense of loss, there is comfort in knowing he is at peace. May his memory bring solace to those who loved him and inspire all who knew him to carry forward the light he brought into their lives.
