PHILIPP A. WASHBURN passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 1, 2016. He was born on October 24, 1928 in Glendora, CA. At 6 months, he moved to Riverside, CA. Phil grew up in Riverside attending Bryant Elementary, Central Junior High where he met his future wife Doris and graduating from "old" Poly High School in 1946. Phil attended Cal-Poly College Pomona before going to work in the family business with his father, Archie Washburn. Phil actually began working at Washburn & Sons when he was 14 years old. He managed the Washburn pest control operations for over 40 years. He also oversaw the Washburn citrus ranch operations. Phil had a lifelong devotion to the citrus industry being the fourth-generation citrus farmer. He served on the California Pest Control Operators Board, Citrus Research Board, and Citrus State Park Board. Phil met his wife Doris (McMahan) in Junior High. They were married on February 11, 1950 and spent the rest of their lives together raising a family, traveling, water skiing and summers at the family home in Laguna Beach. His passion was racing hot rods and his 1927 Modei-T Roadster. Philipp was an active member and golfer at the Victoria Club. He was President of the Vikings Golf Club for 2 years. Phil is survived by his loving wife Doris and their sons; Alan (Elizabeth), David (Lydia) and Dennis Washburn; five grandchildren; Donnell, Dion, Irene,Kyle and Jayme; seven great grandchildren and sister Donna Whitson.
