Philip Martin Zayde Goldstein, DDS1922 - 2014Philip Martin Zayde Goldstein DDS, formerly of Charleston, WV, late of Kenosha passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014.He was born on Nov. 7, 1922, to the late Samuel and Lily (Cohen) Goldstein in Charleston, WV. Phil graduated from WV University and Northwestern University Dental School. At Northwestern, he was the president of the Alpha Omega Dental Social Fraternity.On June 20, 1948, he married Shirley Ardman in Charleston. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2011.Phil served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1944 and again in 1955-1957. He was also in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946.Phil practiced general dentistry in Charleston for a total of 44 years. He was president of the WV Dental Association and Director of the Kanawha County Dental Clinic for many years.Phil was a member of Beth Hillel Temple in Kenosha and a lifelong member of Bnai Jacob Synagogue in Charleston. He started and organized an Archive Museum at the Synagogue, which depicts over 100 years of history for the Charleston Jewish Community.Phil enjoyed participating in sports in his younger days and coached youth basketball and softball for many years. In honor of all of his years of coaching, the gymnasium at Bnai Jacob was renamed the Phil Goldstein Gymnasium. After retirement, Phil started painting and writing short stories. He was so proud of his stories that were published and his art show at Tamarack in WV.Phil is survived by his loving children Charles (Lynn) Goldstein of Houston, Tex., Connie (David) Covey of Kenosha and Sheila (Barry) Wilson of Arthur, WV, his grandchildren Jeremy (Kim) Covey, Matt (Kara) Covey, Allen Goldstein, Keegan (Kasie Robb) Haid, Tanner (Alexandra) Haid, Jena Van Slyke and Jolie Saunders and his great grandchildren Cayden, Sienna, Owen and Skye.He is preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.Services will be held in Charleston on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
