We are saddened to announce the passing of Pecola Banger on July 18, 2024, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born on October 5, 1930, to Samuel and Mable Banger.

Pecola married James Mcilwain in 1951 and together they had three children: Waltina Banger, Melvin Lester Banger Sr, and Walter Mcilwain. She also leaves behind four grandchildren.

Pecola attended Eltin HIGH SCHOOL high school and later went on to study at Winston Salem State University. She worked at Bellsouth for many years before retiring.

Outside of her professional life, Pecola enjoyed hobbies such as walking, reading, and playing with her grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
