Paula Rowena Gatlin, 52, passed away on September 24, 2011 in San Diego, after a long courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. Paula was born on September 16, 1959 in Calexico, California. She was the youngest of 6 children born to Emmett and Dorothy (Dolly) Layton. Paula grew up in Holtville. She worked at the Camio Restaurant and later for the City of Holtville. Paula's next career began in the early 90's as a homemaker. Paula was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. Her family was her life. Paula loved to have family get-togethers at her home, especially for her favorite holiday, Christmas. Paula was preceded in death by her father, Emmett Layton, and brothers, Vernon Layton, Gerald Layton, and George Layton. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 20 years, Len Gatlin; She is also survived by sons, Robert Daker and wife Tracie of Yuma, AZ, Danny Daker and wife Lizzy of El Centro, Micheal Gatlin of El Centro, Paul Gatlin of El Centro; step-daughter, Janine Gatlin of San Diego; grandchildren, Kylie, Nathan, Andrew and Kaden; sister, Crystal Shannon and husband Bill of Minnesota; brother, Dennis Layton and wife Sherie of El Centro, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews and her best friend, Jenny Melon. A celebration of Paula's life will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The celebration will continue at Danny's home in El Centro.
