He leaves behind 4 children Thomas Matthews, Armond Batiste, Logan Smith, Niya Knighton (Christian Jones). He is also survived by 3 grandchildren.
Paul graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in 1965.
Sergeant Matthews III served his country for 18 years as a Pilot in the Marine Corps.
