PAUL HOFFMAN, 80 FREEPORT - Paul Hoffman, 80, of Freeport passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Prominence St. Joseph's Home. He was born on December 1, 1932, in Darlington, WI, a son of Walter and Mary (Duggen) Hoffman. Paul served his country in the US Army, 1st Calvary Division, from 1950 thru 1954. On Sept. 22, 1956, he married Rita Gregorich in Bernard, Iowa. He was employed for 33 years at the Freeport Post Office, and for 20 years at First National/Grand Premier Bank.He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Aquin Boosters, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club, American Postal Workers Union and the Freeport YMCA. Paul's passion in life was his dedication to his family and friends. He was an avid supporter of Freeport Catholic Schools athletic programs. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and rooted for any baseball team that was playing against the Chicago Cubs. Paul will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, and endless supply of jokes. Surviving are his wife, Rita; two sons, Michael (Vicky) of Lena, David of Freeport; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Erica) of Port Byron and Andrew of Lena; one great-grandchild, Sydney Wryn; one sister, Freda Bird of Stockton; and Bun and Squirley. He is also survived by his countless friends from the Aquin Boosters Club, YMCA, Freeport Post Office, and his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph; and his best friends, Ed and Mae Davis. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Timothy Barr officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, until the time of service. A memorial has been established in his memory.
