Pat Tapia Jr., 80, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013.He was born on Feb. 19, 1933, in Las Vegas to Patricio Tapia Sr. and Adela Martinez Tapia. He was united in marriage to the late Ruby Greenier.He enlisted with the New Mexico National Guard in 1954 serving with the Battery B 726th Artillery Battalion, discharged in March of 1957 as a S/Sgt. He was retired as a police captain from the Las Vegas City Police after 29 years of service.Pat enjoyed fishing, hunting, leatherwork, photography and wood working. He was an active member of Fraternal Order of Police and Eagles Lodge. He preceded in death by his parents, Patricio Tapia Sr. and Adela Tapia; wife, Ruby Greenier; son, Mario Tapia; grandson, Charles Tapia; sisters, Carmen Garcia and Magdalena Perkins.He is survived by his children, Patrick D. Tapia and wife Stella, Jesse Tapia of Las Vegas, Dennis Tapia and wife Laura of Santa Fe, Priscilla Tapia and Ernest, Corinna Tafoya and husband Raymond, Cynthia Tapia, Charles Tapia and wife Marian, Margaret Tapia all of Las Vegas, Christina Perez and husband Luis of Albuquerque, Eric Tapia and wife Gina of Yokosuka, Japan; brother, Matias Tapia of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Priscilla Rubio and husband Edward of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Herbert Perkins of Houston, Texas; daughter-in-law, Choe Tapia of Albuquerque; his 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Las Vegas.Serving as casket bearers will be: Ernesto Duran, Jesus Tafoya, Carlos Tafoya, Raymond Tafoya, Leopoldo Tapia, Anthony Tapia, Patricio Tapia, Martin Tapia, Eric Tapia and William Fogleman. Serving as honorary bearers will be all of his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
