ANGOLA — P. Jeanne Runkle, 89, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital. She was born on August 12, 1924, in Fort Wayne to Charles and Audrey (Stickley) Nichols. Jeanne attended North Side High School and received her master's degree in education from St. Francis College, spending her career teaching for the Fort Wayne Community School Corporation. While living in Fort Wayne, she attended Trinity English Lutheran Church and attended Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes after moving to the Angola area. She had a real love for learning and reading and volunteered her time helping the Steuben County Literary Coalition. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, L. Eugene Hoover, in 1967; and a great-grandchild. Surviving is her husband, Don Runkle, who she married June 9, 1979; her son, Mark (Mary Beth) Hoover of South Bend; four daughters, Julie VanLue of Fort Wayne, Rebecca DeWitt of Fort Wayne, Sally (Warren) Pomeroy of Grabill, and Kathryn (Anthony) Hetrick of Leo; 2 stepsons, Dennis (Debra) Runkle of Titusville, Fla., and David (Deborah) Runkle of Fort Wayne; and a brother, Dan (Diane) Nichols of Fort Wayne. Jeanne loved spending time with her 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. They all looked forward to the birthday card they would receive from "Gree" which she never missed. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes, 2955 W. Orland Road, Angola, Ind., with calling 1 hour before. Pastor Thomas E. Smith will officiate and burial will be in the Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson, Indiana. Memorials are to the church.
