Kraus, Jr., OscarThe world has lost but Heaven has gained a gentle and generous soul.Oscar Kraus, Jr., age 79, died November 12, 2017 at the St. Francis Home after a 17-year battle with Parkinson's. He was born on June 5, 1938 in Fond du Lac to Oscar and Dorothy (Freund) Kraus. He graduated from Oakfield High School in 1956, and served in the
U.S. Marine Corps from March 26, 1957 to March 25, 1961, reaching the rank of Corporal. Oscar married Delores Stenz on June 9, 1962 at St. James Church in Oakfield.With always a joke at the ready, Oscar's keen sense of humor lives on in his children, grandchildren and other extended family. He was known for his love of family and his community volunteerism. He was a steadfast Packers fan, loved watching the Brewers and the Badgers, enjoyed bowling and playing poker, and looked forward to the annual trip to deer camp where he napped the days away in the hunting stand.Oscar is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores, and four children: Julia (Andrew) Phelps, Lisa (Michael) Stubbe, Peter (Susanne) Kraus, and Paul (Erin Conroy); as well as six grandchildren: Nicole, Meghan and Courtney Stubbe, and Meghann, Kailey and Adam Kraus. He is further survived by sisters Dolores (Robert) Bender and Althea Zamzow; brothers Roland (Candy) Kraus and John (Sandra) Kraus; sisters-in-law Patricia (Joseph) Seliga and Linda (Alan) Feucht; brothers-in-law Robert (Sandra) Stenz, John (Barbara) Stenz and James (Helen) Stenz; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Victor and Lillian Stenz, and his brother-in-law Daniel Stenz.Before starting his career as an accountant, Oscar was employed at Giddings and Lewis. He graduated from UW-Fond du Lac, then UW-Oshkosh and earned his CPA license in 1977. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from UW-Fond du Lac in 2008. Oscar worked at St. Agnes Hospital for 24 years, retiring as controller in 1998. During his retirement, he continued working as an accountant part-time for Holy Family Catholic Community for many years. Oscar was active in the Fond du Lac community. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Third Degree Council 664 and a KC Fourth Degree Assembly 1211 member, serving in the Honor Guard and as Faithful Purser. He was a past treasurer and member of the board of directors of ASTOP; a past treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Blandine House; a past treasurer of the Fond du Lac Area Children's Chorale; and a past president and treasurer of the board of The Kiwanis Club of Fond du Lac. Oscar was also a past Cubmaster of Pack 3714 Sacred Heart; past committee member of Boy Scout Troop 705; past member and president of the Sacred Heart Parish Council and a past treasurer of Loaves and Fishes.During his career, Oscar's professional memberships included being a member and past president of Institute of Management Accountants—Wisconsin Lakeshore Chapter 306; and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Oscar's family would like to thank Agnesian Hospice Hope and St. Francis Home for their care and support over the last six months.Visitation will be held at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 East Division St., Fond du Lac, on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and, again, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 South Peters Ave., Fond du Lac, on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the church at 11:00 AM. Entombment with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #75 will be in Calvary Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Oscar's name to the stained-glass window fund at Holy Family Catholic Community or the Wisconsin chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.Online condolences may be given at
