WOLCOTTVILLE — Odell J. "Jay" LaMarr, 85, of Wolcottville, Indiana, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at his home. Mr. LaMarr was born on Nov. 25, 1930, in Metropolis, Illinois, to Reuben and Mattie (Reno) LaMarr. In 1972, he moved from Oak Harbor, Ohio, to LaGrange County, Indiana. Jay operated the W.R. Thomas 5¢ & 10¢ Store in LaGrange and also managed the 5¢ & 10¢ Warehouse in LaGrange. He was with W.R. Thomas 5¢ & 10¢ Stores for 28 years, retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he began working at Schlemmer's Hardware in LaGrange, working there for over 20 years. Mr. LaMarr was a
United States Navy veteran having served in the
Korean War. Jay was a member of the Plato United Methodist Church in rural LaGrange, Indiana, and the AOPA and EAA. Flying and the Boy Scouts were both a big part of his life. On Sept. 1, 1961, in Erie, Pennsylvania, he married Mary Hathaway. Mrs. LaMarr survives in Wolcottville, Indiana. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Maureen LaMarr of Angola, Indiana, and their children, Amanda, Josh and Crystal; two daughters and a son-in-law, Leisa LaMarr of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Carol and Mark Coffee of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and their children, Alexandria "Alex" and Matthew; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Marilyn Wilkie of Metropolis, Illinois; and many other extended family members. His parents and a brother, Reuben Royce LaMarr, all preceded him in death. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, Indiana, with Pastors Mike Antal, Carldean Merrifield and Michael LaMarr officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Indiana, with a military service being conducted by the LaGrange American Legion Post #215. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
