Norman Walter SteinbachSan AngeloNorman Walter Steinbach was born on Nov. 11, 1922, in Nordheim, Texas to George Max and Norma Wied Steinbach. He died on Jan. 8, 2017, in San Angelo, Texas. Norman moved to San Antonio, Texas with his family in 1925. He attended Robert B. Green Elementary School, Page Jr. High School, Brackenridge High School and graduated in 1939. He entered the Maritime military service on Oct. 12, 1942, served in the Pacific arena, attended Officers Candidate School graduating as Ensign in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Norman married his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne Nelson on May 18, 1946. They were married a few months short of 71 years. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He raised a family in Windcrest, Texas from Oct. 1958 to May 2002. Norman was elected as the first Mayor of Windcrest and he and Sue continued to be active in community schools and Windcrest United Methodist Church. He was also CEO of the Telephone Workers Credit Union for 2 years. He was also a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge & Shrine. Norman and Sue travelled for over 18 years in an old beat-up Airstream motor home and was active in the Wally Byam Airstram travel club. They moved to San Angelo, Texas to be near family in May of 2002.Norman was predeceased by his parents, and an elder brother, George Lorenz Steinbach. He is survived by two sons, Steven Clinton Steinbach and his wife, Nancy, and Norman Phillip Steinbach and his wife Debora, four grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
