It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Nipher Nanga Mulama, affectionately known as "Moyi." Nipher peacefully departed this life on December 14, 2024, at the home of her son, Dr. David Mulama, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at the age of 81.

Nipher was born on January 1, 1943, in the serene village of Elukanji Mwiberenya, near Mwihila Secondary School. She was the cherished fourth child of the late Joseck Etalanyi and Dorice Etabale. Her early life was marked by the family’s resilience in the face of hardship and the loss of several siblings. This instilled in her a deep strength and unwavering faith. The family’s later move to Mwirembe, a testament to her father’s love, solidified the family bonds, a theme that would define Nipher’s life. Her father’s endearing term for his children, “Ebikhurende Bianje” (my little gourds), reflects the tender care and hope he nurtured within his family.

A devout Christian, Nipher dedicated her life to her faith and community. She served as a respected leader within her church, inspiring countless individuals with her unwavering belief and compassionate spirit. Her legacy is one of faith, service, and unwavering love.

Nipher was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Mulama and a loving mother to her seven children: Charles, Joshua, Sammy, Eunice, Sellah, Dr. David, and Meshack Mulama. Family was the cornerstone of Nipher's life. She cherished gatherings with her children and grandchildren, sharing stories and creating lasting memories over evening tea. Her warmth and determination to maintain close family ties were hallmarks of her character. If too much time elapsed without a visit, she would initiate one herself, ensuring that the bonds of family remained strong.

Nipher’s enduring legacy extends to her daughters-in-law, including Emily Adhiambo, Emily Apwabo, Mama Conje, Mama Gayo, and others; her 37 grandchildren, including Paul Oyoko, Enock Omuhinda, Joseck Etalanyi, Stephen Kelly Khatete (France), Stanley Oyoko Kandira, Phanuel Okinda, Brighton Barasa, Sharleen Nanga, Christine Kandira (SC), Michael Kandira (SC), Peter Kandira, Steve Kandira (SC), Gideon Matthews, Joseph Omboko, and many more; and her 15 great-grandchildren, including Xavier Opiyo, Rose Musimbi, Favour Musimbi, and Tesla Oyoko, among others. These cherished family members will carry forward her legacy of love and faith for generations to come.

Her warm smile and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral Arrangements:

Meetings and prayers are being held daily at Dr. David Mulama’s home, 2633 Park Ridge Blvd., Rock Hill, SC, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Nipher’s final resting place will be in Emanyatta Village in Kakamega County, Kenya. Her burial is scheduled for December 28, 2024.
