Nellie Latimore, born on October 17th, 1949, in Queens, New York, passed away on April 14th, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and community member.
Nellie lived her entire life in Queens, where she made a name for herself as a devoted volunteer and advocate for her community. She dedicated her time and energy to several local causes, including improving education opportunities for children in low-income neighborhoods, promoting voter registration and engagement, and fighting for environmental justice.
Nellie was a trailblazer in her family, becoming the first to attend college and later earn a graduate degree in social work. She put her education to use by working with families in need and became an inspiration to others in her community to pursue higher education.
Despite her many commitments, Nellie never lost sight of what was most important to her: her family. She adored her husband, Robert, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage, and was a devoted mother to their four children – John, Marcus, Charlene, and Kevin. Nellie was a proud grandmother of eight and took delight in spoiling each one of her grandchildren with love and affection.
Anyone who knew Nellie knew that she was always up for a good laugh or a deep conversation. She was a kind and compassionate listener who made every encounter with her feel like a gift. Her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A small funeral service and celebration of Nellie's life will be held at the Queens City Funeral Home on April 25th, 2023, followed by a private interment at the Forest Hills Cemetery.
Rest in peace, Nellie. Your legacy of love and service will live on in the community you helped to build and shape for generations to come.
