Nelda Joy WheelerShreveport,LA - Mrs. Nelda Joy Wheeler, 83, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 at Kingston Road Baptist Church with services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Crawford Williams. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery.Mrs. Wheeler was born on March 7, 1934 in Beaver City, Nebraska to Jessie Viola Larsen and Floyd Gilbert Nicholson. She met Delton Lawrence Wheeler while he was working in Nebraska and the two married in 1950. She was the Director and a teacher of Ingleside Baptist Church Preschool for over 25 years. Mrs. Wheeler was a very devoted Christian Lady and a marvelous mother and friend.She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Boyd Layne Wheeler and Gary Dewayne Wheeler; her first born grandchild, Christina Michelle Wheeler; and brother, Bobby Williams.She is survived by her daughter, Chenena "Nena" Martin and her husband, Ben; three sons, Clinton Wheeler, Daniel Wheeler and his wife, Shannon, and Jesse Wheeler; seven grandchildren, Suzanne, Dewayne, Sarah, Trevor, Dustin, Brandon, and Meagan; numerous great-grandchildren; three brothers, Burdette, Eldon, and Floyd Lee; three sisters, Bertha, Dixie, and Jenny; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dewayne, Dustin, Brandon and Trevor, and close family friend, Tom Craig.Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Kingston Road Baptist Church.The family requests that memorials be made to Kingston Road Baptist Church. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Dr.'s and staff during her last stay at Willis Knighton Pierremont, especially ICU.
