AVILLA — Nancy J. Fischer, 67, of Avilla died on Monday, Feb 23, 2015, at her home in Avilla. She was born on March 11, 1947, in Garrett to the late William and Myrtle (Huff) Barrett. On August 9, 1969, she married Thomas Fischer, who preceded her in death in 2002. She always enjoyed working with the public, and worked at the BMV and later as Clerk Treasurer for the Town of Avilla for 8 years. Prior to that she served as deputy clerk for 3 years. She was involved with her children through FFA and 4-H and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Rosary Society, the Kiwanis Club of Avilla, Avilla American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer with hospice, and was a member of the board of directors for the Avilla Days Festival. She is survived by her children, Thomas W. (Christie) Fischer of Kendallville, Tammara (Tony) Manier of Union, Ohio, and Amy Lynn Fischer of Avilla (Ron Adkins of Chatham, Virginia); her grandchildren, Noah, Alexis, and Emily Fischer, and Tabitha, Mackenzie, and Toni Manier. Also surviving are a brother, Dennis (Deb) Barrett of Rockford, Ohio, and sister, Billie (Alan) Fordeck of Kendallville. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel, 530 N. Main St., with visitation one hour prior to service. The Rev. Ken Weaver will officiate. Visitation also is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avilla. Memorials are to Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
