Nancy B. Harland RACINE Nancy (nee: Brown) Harland, 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. She was born on January 2, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of the late Russell and Nan (Nee: Palmer) Brown. Nancy lost her mother at the age of four and her father ten years later. She felt lucky to have had a wonderful step-mother, Anne Stoffels, with whom she was close until Annes death in 1986. Nancy grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. Nancy met and married the brother of one of her sorority sisters, James Fulton Harland (1924-2007) in 1949. Nancy and Jim lived in Chicago for a few years until being transferred to Milwaukee in 1955. Nancy and Jim lived in Shorewood until moving to their home in Racine in 1972. Nancy had many interests, which she pursued with vigor. She was always interested in travel and became a travel agent in 1977. This allowed her to take trips herself and to enjoy planning travel for others who shared her passion. She met several of her close friends through being a travel agent. Nancy, and often Jim, traveled throughout the world. Nancy worked at Veltra Travel Service for many years and made lasting friendships with both colleagues and people who sought her counsel about their own travels. Nancy loved to garden. She became a master gardener in 1980. She helped set up the local hotline and was looking forward to the coming gardening season. A big passion of Nancys was the Garden of Giving. She and Jim worked on all aspects of the garden from its beginning and was very proud of the work that everyone did there. Surviving is her sister-in-law, Peggy Lineweaver, niece, Meg Lineweaver, nephews, Tom (Sandy) Lineweaver and Jim (Christy) Lineweaver; great nieces and nephews, Anna (David) Merritt, Becca (TJ) Reed and Andrew Lineweaver; Alex and Evan Lineweaver and great niece and great nephew, Ilse and Zeke. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. We will all forever miss her enthusiasm, charm and adventurous nature. Thank you to the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Cardiac Institute for the kind and gentle care given to Nancy and to her family and friends.
