ALLAN, Myrtle Ringstad1919 - 2016Myrtle Allan, 96 years old, passed away at the Wales Home, Cleveland, Quebec, on November 17, 2016. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, great- aunt and friend. Myrtle was born on December 2, 1919, the middle daughter of Lily and Alfred Ringstad, who had come from Norway to settle in British Columbia. During World War II, Myrtle moved to Ottawa, Ontario, and worked for the National Film Board. In Ottawa she met Clifford Allan, a mechanical engineer employed by the National Research Council on the development of radar technology. Myrtle and Cliff were married in Ottawa. After the war they moved to Windsor, Quebec, where Cliff had worked at the Canada Paper Company before he was seconded to Ottawa during the War. In Windsor, Myrtle became an avid skier, golfer and curler. She also did volunteer work for the Anglican Church, the Girl Guides Association of Canada and for other organizations in the area. She continued her volunteer work in the Town of Mount Royal, Montreal, and Sherbrooke, Quebec, where Myrtle and Cliff subsequently lived. Myrtle will be missed by her daughter, Shirley Irene Allan Brown, by her son-in-law, Robert Francis Brown Jr., and by her nieces and nephews and many friends. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Eligh Allan, her sisters, Florence Dodwell and Alice Fox, and her brother William Claman. Myrtle has been interred next to her husband, Clifford Eligh Allan. The family service was officiated by Archdeacon Heather Thomson at St. Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wales Home, Cleveland, Quebec.
