Muriel Beatrice Plummer Muriel Beatrice Plummer, age 98, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 24, 1918 in Rochester, Kent, England, UK. Muriel (often known as Babs) turned 21 just after Britain entered World War II. She became an Almoner (Social Worker) for the war effort. She worked with soldiers with shell shock (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), as well as with other health conditions. Muriel met Donald Plummer after WWII and they married in 1948. They emigrated to the USA in 1949, settling in Hermosa Beach and then Manhattan Beach. As well as supporting her husband's career as an aerospace engineer and raising their three children, Muriel worked for the County of Los Angeles as a Social Worker. She served as the president of the local AARP branch and was a long-time member of the Daughters of the British Empire organization. She loved the language and culture of France, partly due to her fond memories of time spent in that country before World War II. She is most remembered for her kindness and love to everyone around her. Muriel is survived by two daughters, Angela Mary Gray and Diane Elizabeth Plummer, her son, Thomas Donald Plummer; her grandchildren, Jennifer Malerich, Allison Gray, Michael Gray, Meredith Root, Evan Root, Bhima Plummer, Govinda Plummer, and her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Charlotte Malerich. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00pm at St. Cross Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Boulevard, Hermosa Beach, CA, with a reception in the parish hall to follow.
