We are saddened to announce the passing of Michael Steven Tate, who was born on April 18, 1952, in Norton, Virginia. He peacefully passed away on January 14, 2025.

Michael was the beloved son of Wayne and Helen Tate and loving husband of Karen Tate, whom he married in 2015. He was the proud stepfather of Christopher Gilbert (spouse Brandi) and Candice Swanson. He was also a doting grandfather to Scarlett Swanson.

Michael spent many years working at the Department of Corrections before retiring in 2007. He also bravely served in the Army, demonstrating his dedication to his country.

Michael will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family wanted to especially mention Amedysis Hospice and Serenity Place for their kind and devoted service to Michael and his family.
