Mr. Michael Jeffrey Dunn passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sunriver, Oregon on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at the age of 68. Michael, also known as Mike, is survived by his wife, Jillian Porter, and two sons, Greg Dunn and Connor Dunn.
Michael was born on November 2nd, 1956, in Rapid City, South Dakota. He grew up in Reno, Nevada, where he developed a lifelong love of nature. He enjoyed nature in its many forms and was a passionate hiker, biker, skier, kayaker, fisherman, snorkeler, and swimmer. As an adult, Michael called several places home: Houston, Texas; Anacortes, Washington; Boulder, Colorado; Issaquah, Washington; Sunriver, Oregon; and Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii.
Michael drew purpose in life from his family and his role as a father and a husband. He freely shared his love, raucous laughter, immense wisdom, and curious mind with his family and friends. Michael’s embrace of fatherhood will forever be cherished by his sons. Among the many memories his sons hold dear are the countless hours he spent sharing his love of baseball with them and coaching their little league teams. As a husband, he shared a true love, connection on many levels, and respect.
Michael received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Washington State University and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado. He was a pioneer in the wireless cell phone industry and eventually became an executive director with AT&T. Following his retirement, his intellectual curiosity blossomed into a passion for learning about physics, notably quantum mechanics and its intersection with spirituality. While others listen to music during exercise, he would intently watch physics lectures – breaking both a physical and a mental sweat.
He was also a connoisseur of original Dad Jokes, fully encouraged by his two sons. His stated goal for the nearly daily jokes was simply to receive a light chuckle or an eye roll. He was known to express his love through original songs and poems throughout his life.
Michael’s loving memory will live on through his sons, his wife, his wife’s sons (Kory and Garrett Porter), and the many other people who adored him.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Michael at the Heritage Room of the Sunriver Resort (57081 Meadow Road, Sunriver, OR, 97707) beginning at 10:00AM on Saturday, March 8th, 2025. Weather permitting, a brief walk along Michael’s bike path will be included. All are invited to attend. Please contact Jillian Porter (425-802-2276) for additional information.

Guestbook
Mike Dunn was a great guy and we (Marty Evans and Michelle Goodrie Evans, Kids: Zachary and Vanessa) have fond memories. One seems so Mike, I remember him after a day skiing with his legs elevated and ice packs all around his knees. He didn't let little things like severe knee pain stop him from living life with the people he loved. God rest your soul, Mike and bless his family. We send our love and remembrances to all but especially his sons that we knew well as they grew up in WA, best to you, Greg and Connor. Also we donated to the turtle foundation cause we know you as a family had wonderful times in Hawaii!
