Michael James CastrovillaAGE: 88 • BrickMichael Castrovilla, 88, died peacefully at his home the morning of July 26, 2017. Husband, father and grandfather, Michael lived a full and wonderful life and will be missed tremendously. The son of James Castrovilla and Catherine Barbalaci, Michael was born on March 6, 1929 in Newark, NJ, the youngest of four brothers. He was an Executive Vice President at Mohawk Savings and Loans and served on its Board of Directors, before joining First Fidelity, now Wells Fargo. He was a member of the Newark Chamber of Commerce, the New Jersey Savings & Loans League and Princeton Commons Men's Club. He met the love of his life, Diana Cassese, at church; they were married for 65 years and had three daughters: Doreen, Valerie and Michele. A talented musician, Michael was the leader of Michael James Orchestra, where he played the upright bass, and shared his love for music and conversation with all who had the privilege of knowing him. The beloved head of the table, Michael was a skilled storyteller - his family will miss his stories, quick wit and laugh. Michael was also an incredible cook and loved to garden, where he grew the best basil and tomatoes. He lived for his family who will miss him more than words. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Diana, his two daughters, Michele and Doreen, sons-in-law, David and James, grandchildren Lauren, Brittany, John and Sarah, and his brother, Gerald. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Catherine, brothers, Louis and Joseph, and his daughter, Valerie. Friends may call on Friday, 4-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home -2170 Hwy. 88 Brick, NJ 08724. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, 9AM at St. Dominic's RC Church in Brick.
