Michael Eugene Fischer, at the age of 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, Colorado on October 14, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1951 to Eugene and Grace Fischer.
Michael, also known as Mike, Pops, Popfish, and Papa, was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Fischer, four children, Shawn Fischer, Brian Fischer, Kathryn Muller, and Elizabeth Zinanti, nine grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Eugene, mother Grace, stepmother Marge, and infant son David. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Michael had a peculiar knack for honesty, a trait that some might say didn't come with a built-in filter for tact. But beneath that unvarnished candor lay a heart that beat fiercely for the people he held dear. Michael shared his love through his passion for crafting the perfect flavor of ice cream and for his love of football, including the fantasy variety which he played with his sons for over 20 years. His love for his family was as vast as the outdoors he so cherished.
Life threw him a curveball when it served up a diagnosis of melanoma in 2019. Most folks would've crumbled, but not Michael. He fought back with the ferocity of a grizzly, battling cancer for a whopping 4 years. Throughout the ordeal, he never let his pain or fear show, standing tall for his family until the very end.
To honor the memory of this wonderful man, we're hosting a memorial service on Saturday, January 13th. Anyone who crossed paths with Michael is welcome to attend and share their stories and memories. The location and other details will be announced at a later date.
As we remember Michael, we'll think of his warm smile, his love for the outdoors, and the lasting impact he had on all of our lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, who are forever grateful for the colorful character that he was.
