    Steve Yellen

This message from Gary Wilson, of UTEP 1979-80 fame: R.I.P To My College Teammate, Mike McDuffen.  My New York Brother. We Had So Many Great Times Together. 🙏🙏🙏 From Steve Yellen Amen Gary Wilson, who was the great backcourt mate to Mike McDuffen and both of whom led this UTEP Miner 1979-80 team, along with Hall of Famer Fred Reynolds and Dr. Jimbo Bowden (who that season had held Michael Cooper to 6 in the Pitt) and the speedy Wayne Hollins and “WAC rebounding kings Anthony Pie Burns  & Terry White, and “the stopper” Julius Wayne and the “get the shoota Tim Crenshaw”, and another sharpshooting marksman “The Saint Anthony Bailey”, the amazing Roshern Amie, super guard Eric Alexander, then Asst Coach Tim Floyd and Asst Coach Ken DeWeese Sr, all of course under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Coach Don Haskins, to the NiT  and in that first round game, the great Mike Mcduffen dominated the win on the road vs Wichita State with not one, but with two first round NBA draft picks. Mike was fantastic, handed out a dozen assists and dominating the Wichita State guards on both ends of the floor. It is generally accepted that Mike McDuffen invented and was the first player at any level to use the Euro step, indeed years ahead of its time. I still show old videos of his moves to young ball handling guards inspiring them to learn the Mcduffen Euro. Off the court , I watched Mike become a great dad and grandad to the kids as he established his new life in Florida. Godspeed Mike Mcduffen.
