Merlin Carroll Hobbs ROPESVILLE-Merlin Carroll Hobbs, 84, a longtime resident of Ropesville, Texas, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, in Odessa. He was born on April 8, 1932, in Yoakum County, to his parents, Emory and Agusta Mabel Freeman Hobbs. He married Wilma Nell Morton on Oct. 6, 1950, who preceded him in death. He was employed by the City of Brownfield as an electrician, a barber in Ropesville, and was also an over the road trucker and a farmer. He enjoyed camping and fishing. No one ever loved his family more. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, in the Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield. He is survived by his daughters, Iva Roberson and husband, John of Odessa, Kathy Carroll Caroland and husband, Eddie of Merkel, Charlotte Hawkins and husband, Jackie Dan of Trent, and Melody Hobbs of Lubbock, and his son, Merlin Chris Hobbs of Trent, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family requests donations to the in lieu of flowers. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
