Maxine FlanaganDes MoinesRuth Maxine Flanagan was known to friends and family as Maxine. She passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Maxine was born on a farm in Sac County, Iowa on September 9, 1923, to Edward and Hilda Whalen. She graduated from high school at Galva, Iowa, then attended business school and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Maxine worked for several offices and retired after 25 years from State Surety.Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Forest; son, David; parents, Edward and Hilda Whalen; brother, Kenneth and his wife, Donna; brother, LeRoy and his wife, Delphine; and sister, Joan McQuigg and her husband, Bruce.She is survived by step-sons, Larry (Jan) Flanagan and Kent (Janie) Flanagan; sister, Bonnie Whalen of Des Moines; as well as step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Maxine will be cremated and buried at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
