Maxine Bourke, 83 passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in San Diego, California. She was born on February 18,1926 in Flint, Michigan to Charles Leroy Keirns and Dottie Bell Keirns. She grew up there and attended local schools. She met and married her husband, James Franklin Bourke on June 17, 1950. They moved to Yuma in February, 1974. She became a legal secretary working for several attorneys before moving to the Yuma County Attorney's Office in 1977 where she worked until retirement on June 30, 1995. She was active in the Yuma Legal Secretaries Association and was voted Secretary of the year during 1978-1979. She was also President 1978-1979 and reelected 1979-1980. In later years she joined the Assistance League of Yuma on October 27,2004. She is survived by her sons, of San Diego, John James Bourke and Frank Daniel (Dora) Bourke; granddaughter, Maxine Dora Bourke; and grandson, Christian Ethan Bourke. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olive Townsend and Pauline LaFay; brothers, Leonard and Leo Keirns. She was cremated and a celebration of life will be held at 2901 Palo Verde Lane on March 28, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Maxine's name to the Assistance League of Yuma Building Fund.
