Matthew D. Whitman, age 33, a resident of Aurora, IL, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2016 at his home. He was born on June 16, 1983 in Anderson, IN. Matthew is survived by his daughter, Alexia Whitman-Justo; his parents, Jolene Whitman and Kevin Whitman; his sisters, Jennifer Whitman and Kathlene (Grant) Kluge; his grandparents, Joe and Arlene Shindelar, Kay Whitman and Sally Spurgeon. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David Whitman. Matt attended the College of Dupage and Harold Washington College, but mostly he was a student of life. He was a creative artist and a talented poet. He enjoyed music and played the guitar. He recently developed a passion for studying and cultivating mushrooms, becoming well-respected in a small circle of mycology. He always enjoyed the outdoors and camping with his dad and uncles. Matt just became a fan of the Chicago Cubs, thanks to his grandma. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Matt's life, memorials may be directed to his family for a future education fund for his daughters. Visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 4:00 until 5:30 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
