Mary Sorel, 86, a resident of Poway since 1975, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009. Mrs. Sorel was born on September 23, 1922, in Laurel, MS. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles. She is survived by a daughter, Denise Vasquez of Cleveland, TX; a son, David Sorel of Alpine, CA; a sister, Margaret Vought of Lenox, MI; a brother, Richard Faulds of Fort Gratiot, MI; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sorel in 1992; a daughter, Marilyn "Diane" Etzler in 2003; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Etzler in 1982. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in Poway with the Rosary at 6:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in San Diego. The Committal will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mary's name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Poway-Bernardo Mortuary.
