Marion L. NerrieMarion Nerrie passed away peacefully on December 17, 2013 at the age of 102. Marion was born on the island of Manhattan, New York on February 25, 1911 to her parents John and Anna Dolan.She was married on August 26, 1935 to Jim Nerrie. They had two children, Barbara and James Edward. Jim died in 1995.As a young girl she worked as a telephone operator/clerk for the Postal service in New York and in Long Beach as a child development specialist at Long Beach City College on the Liberal Arts Campus for 25 years.She served as a Girl Scout Leader at Willard Elementary School, Jefferson Jr. High and Wilson High School. Her Girl Scout troop has continued their friendship for over 60 years. They dedicated a memorial bench at the Girl Scout Marine Landing to Marion including a plaque with all their names. Marion and Jim operated the Boy and Girl Bar X day camp in Long Beach in the 1950's. Many local kids attended and went swimming at the Huntington Beach Plunge and horseback riding at Spillers on Carson Street. Marion was a member of the Children's Benefit League and a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church. She was active in PTA and received the Life Service Award.She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Nicholson, and son Jim (Karen) Nerrie; grandchildren, Susan (Rob) Rosenmeier, Julie (Ed) Davidson, Jeffrey (Danette) Nicholson, Juliana Lambert, Elizabeth (Shaun) Ragnauth, James Matthew (Jayne) Nerrie; great-grandchildren, Sara, Marta, Ryan, Brittney, Janet, Eric, Zachary, Daniel, Benjamin and great-great grandchildren, Brielle, Bailey and Cade.Jim and Marion's favorite song was Stardust. Remember them when you hear that song, they had a wonderful life.A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:45am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am, both on Friday, January 10, 2014 at All Souls Mortuary in Long Beach. Interment will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery.
