Marilyn Joan Hambley passed away early in the morning on November 16, 2016 after a sudden illness. Marilyn was born on May 28, 1935 to Vesta and Osborne Stairs in Caribou, Maine. She graduated from high school in Washburn, Maine. Some of her favorite pastimes were ice skating on the pond and watching ball games at school. In 1955, Marilyn graduated from Husson College in Bangor, Maine and worked as a secretary at an army recruiting station and a business management office before marrying Louis E. Peters on February 18, 1956. Marilyn was a loving mother to her three daughters Leslie Marie (Jim) Mayer, Lori Lee Peters, and Nicolle Alyse Peters. Marilyn married William M. Hambley on August 28, 1982. They had a wonderful marriage and spent time on cruises and backpacking trips. Marilyn was lucky to gain three more daughters Elizabeth (Troy) Davis, Lynn Hambley, and Diane Hambley; and three sons Richard (Catherine) Hambley, Lee (Ruth) Hambley, and Tom Hambley when she married Bill. Marilyn was an avid Kings fan, and she enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, shopping, cooking, and spending time with her family which also included 12 grandchildren she adored Tara Spaans; Tyler, Connor, and Hailey Davis; Ruthie (Erwin) Wozniak; Nick (Rachel) Reddick; Will, Kirk (Kayla), Tim, Ryan, Mitchell, and Carli Hambley.Marilyn was a caring sister to her brother Robert Stairs and sister-in-law Shirley Stairs, and she was a sweet aunt to nieces Andrea (Mark) Davenport and Sara (Paul) Burgos; great-niece Lily Burgos; and great-nephew Luke Davenport.Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, daughter Leslie, son-in-law Darren, and stepson Lee.The service will be at 2:00 p.m. on December 10, 2016 at First United Methodist Church 200 W. Oak St., Lodi. A reception will follow immediately after the service to celebrate Marilyn's life. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn's family would like for you to consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation (
alz.org) in Marilyn's name as she lived with Alzheimer's disease the last few years of her life.
