Margaret G. OwenVero Beach, FLDecember 21, 1921-December 22, 2016 Margaret "Peg" Owen, 95, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice House in Vero on December 22, 2016, surrounded by her children. Margaret Emily Gannon was born on December 13, 1921 to William and Louise (Shaw) Gannon in Hamden, NY. She married Walter W. Owen in Hamden on June 3, 1950. Peg graduated from Walton High School, earned her RN from King's County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, and later her BA in Education from the State University College at Oneonta (NY). Peg served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps in World War II, nursing General Patton's troops throughout the ETO. She continued her career stateside as a hospital nurse, and later as a certified School Nurse Teacher in the Sidney (NY) School System. A 30 year resident of Unadilla, Mrs. Owen was ever active in her community over the years, serving as a Scout Leader, PTO President and a member of the Unatego (NY) School Board. She and Walt became avid Square Dancers in the Tri-Town and Binghamton areas. In Florida, Peg was a member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), the Red Hat Society, volunteered for ten years at the Indian River Library gift shop, and was an active member of The Community Church of Vero Beach. Surviving are five children and cherished in-laws; William (Laura) Owen of Waterloo, NY, Geraldine (David) Geller of Key West, FL, Rebecca (Charles) Kaune of Vero Beach, FL, Walter W. Owen Jr. (Karen) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Robert (Ellen) of Cape Coral, FL; 14 beloved grandchildren, Landon, Erik, Kellen, Tyler, Alison, Cristen, Mark, Stephanie, Samantha, Emily, Jaclyn, Brian, Robert and Mackenzie; six great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Walt, three grandchildren, and two brothers. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at The Community Church Chapel of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd St., with Rev.
