WO II JOINER, Marcel "Marty" F., C.D., WWII Veteran, Battle of Normandy, Member of the 21st Armoured Regiment, Governor General's Foot Guards, and former public servant in the Ministry of Transport and the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved "Poppy" at the age of 95. A thoughtful, compassionate soul to the very end, Marty Joiner passed away with his adoring wife and soul mate, Blanche (nee Sheaves), at his side on May 28, 2017. Marty was born on August 14, 1921 in Eastview (Vanier), Ontario, to the late William and Beatrice Joiner. He is survived by sisters Geraldine (late Jim) and Marie (Wilman), and predeceased by siblings George, Francis, Edward, and Winnifred. Marty had an infectious sense of humour, an intense love for his family and an unparalleled thirst for knowledge, never missing the evening news, Question Period, or his daily crossword puzzle. He will be deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered by his wife Blanche; his children, Donna (Douglas), Lori, Ken and Bruce; his grandchildren, David (Sheena), Stacey (Matthew), Kevin (Sandi), Amanda and Andrew; and his great-grandchildren, Destini, Christopher, Konnor, Charlotte, Carter, Kaiden, Stanley and Danica, all of whom will continue to revere the man who was nothing short of a blessing in our lives. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the many nurses and doctors at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their care and compassion in Marty's final days. Those who wish to make a donation in Marty's honour may do so to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Marty was a truly exceptional man, whose joy for life and kind heart left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone with whom he crossed paths. Poppy, we will love you always - may you rest in peace. A celebration of Marty's life will be held at the Bells Corners Royal Canadian Legion (4026 Old Richmond Rd.) on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
